If you damage your car nowadays, it is (almost) completely settled digitally by the body repairshop and the appraiser. This used to be a matter of a consultation between the two. In order to clarify the time it took to replace parts and to help the sheet metal worker with the alignment of the body, the "Fiches Techniques" were issued in France: some general information about the car, explanation of the use of the alignment gauges, the floorpan dimensions, the required parts and the time that is allowed for replacing parts. All sounds very normal.
